Wydad Casablanca’s president Hicham Aït Menna and the club’s board have announced their resignation following a turbulent season marked by poor results and growing pressure from members, bringing an end to a leadership period that began in July 2024.

The decision, confirmed late on Sunday, 3 May 2026, will take effect at the next elective general assembly. It follows months of instability both on and off the pitch, as the Moroccan giants struggled to meet expectations despite significant financial investment in their squad.

The resignation marks a turning point for the Casablanca-based club, which had entered the campaign with high ambitions but failed to deliver consistent performances.

Wydad had strengthened heavily with the arrivals of high-profile players including Hakim Ziyech, Nordin Amrabat, and Wissam Ben Yedder, in a bid to compete at the top level domestically and in continental competition.

However, the squad never managed to find cohesion, with form collapsing into an eight-match winless run that intensified scrutiny on the leadership.

On the sporting front, Wydad’s struggles were reflected in their position in the Botola Pro league, where they currently sit fourth following a defeat to Renaissance de Zemamra on Sunday.

Their continental campaign also ended in disappointment, as they were eliminated in the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals by Olympique Club de Safi.

Coaching instability further deepened the crisis, with several managerial changes over the course of the season, including the dismissal of Patrice Carteron.

The club’s leadership has described the resignation as part of a wider effort to allow for an organised transition, amid increasing criticism from members over what has been described as poor management of sporting and administrative affairs.

In preparation for the change in leadership, Wydad has now set out a clear electoral timeline. Membership registration for the 2026–2027 season will run from 5 May to 5 June 2026.

Candidates wishing to contest the presidency will be able to submit their applications between 5 June and 20 June 2026. The elective general assembly is expected to play a decisive role in shaping the club’s next direction.

As Wydad moves towards this period of transition, supporters will be closely watching developments, with expectations remaining high for a return to stability and success at one of Morocco’s most prominent football institutions.
