Libyan league experienced one of its most eye-catching winter transfer windows in recent memory, as clubs moved aggressively to reinforce their squads with high-profile names from across Arab and African football, significantly boosting the competition’s profile and fan interest.

The market was dominated by a historic domestic deal involving Libyan international Fadel Salama, who became the most expensive local player in the history of the Libyan league after completing a move from Al-Ahli Benghazi to Al-Ittihad for an estimated four million euros.

Al-Ahly Tripoli were also among the most active clubs, securing the services of Syrian striker Pablo Sabbagh from South Korean side Suwon in a deal reportedly worth two million dollars.

The club further strengthened its squad by signing Burkinabe international Ibrahim Blati Toure from Egyptian outfit Pyramids, a transfer regarded as one of the most valuable of the window.

Al-Ittihad continued their spending spree by bringing in Burkinabe midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki on a two-year deal valued at around one million dollars, while also adding Libyan defender Ahmed Ben Ali from Italian club Virtus Entella.

One of the standout international moves saw South African star Thembinkosi Lorch emerge as the headline signing of the window after joining Al-Ittihad from Wydad in a deal estimated at 3.55 million euros.

Elsewhere, Al-Suwaihli strengthened their defence with the arrival of Tunisian international Nader Al-Ghandari from Russian club Akhmat Grozny. Al-Ahly Benghazi added further depth by signing Congolese player Nathan Edomba Fasika from South African side Chippa United.

Al-Nasr also made a notable acquisition by signing Tanzanian international Kibo Denis from Simba SC, while Al-Ittihad Al-Askari secured the signature of Tunisian midfielder Mourad Al-Hadhli. In attack, Cameroonian forward Anatole Abang completed a move from Al-Bataeh to Al-Ittihad, adding further firepower up front.

The scale and quality of these signings have underlined the growing ambition of Libyan clubs, with the winter window firmly establishing itself as a landmark period for the league’s continued rise.
