Wydad and AS FAR battle for Uganda star Allan Okello

Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club and AS FAR are reportedly competing for the signature of Uganda international Allan Okello during the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder has attracted attention after establishing himself as an important player for Tanzanian champions Young Africans since joining the club earlier this year.

Both Moroccan sides are understood to be interested in bringing Okello to the Botola Pro, but any deal could prove difficult because of Young Africans’ desire to retain one of their key players.

Young Africans hold strong negotiating position

Okello joined Young Africans in January 2026 from Ugandan club Vipers in a transfer reportedly worth about €257,000.

The midfielder remains under contract with the Tanzanian club until the end of 2028, giving Young Africans considerable leverage if Wydad or AS FAR make a formal approach.

The club’s reluctance to lose one of its important players could therefore make negotiations complicated, particularly with the two Moroccan clubs reportedly competing for his services.

Okello brings attacking creativity

Okello operates primarily as an attacking midfielder and is known for his ability to create chances and contribute in the attacking third.

His performances with Young Africans have strengthened his reputation, while he has also become an important member of the Uganda national team.

The midfielder’s career has included spells with several clubs, most notably KCCA in Uganda and Paradou in Algeria.

He later returned to Uganda on loan from KCCA before joining Vipers, where he rediscovered his best form and re-established himself as one of the country’s leading talents.

Morocco move could be next step

A transfer to Wydad or AS FAR would give Okello an opportunity to test himself in Morocco’s top division and potentially compete in African club football at another level.

However, with his Young Africans contract running until 2028, the Tanzanian champions remain in a strong position.

The battle between Wydad and AS FAR could therefore depend not only on the player’s preference but also on whether either Moroccan club can convince Young Africans to sanction his departure.
