Wydad AC part ways with Paulo Sergio

Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club have parted ways with Portuguese coach Paulo Sergio Perito following a disappointing start to the Moroccan league campaign.

The club announced the termination of Sergio’s contract after a brief spell in charge, with the decision coming after Wydad were held to a 1-1 home draw by Ittihad Amal Tiznit.

Sergio was appointed during the summer transfer window with the expectation of improving the team’s performances and helping Wydad compete for domestic honours. However, results have failed to meet expectations, prompting the club’s hierarchy to end their working relationship with the Portuguese tactician.

During his four league matches in charge, Wydad recorded just one victory, two draws and one defeat, accumulating five points from a possible 12.

The disappointing run has left the Casablanca-based side ninth in the league standings, increasing pressure on the technical team and raising concerns about the club’s start to the season.

Wydad’s management will now turn its attention to appointing a new head coach capable of restoring consistency and improving the team’s position in the league.

According to reports, Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi has emerged as the leading candidate to take over, with the club’s officials reportedly engaged in serious negotiations with him.

Nabi’s potential appointment could provide Wydad with an opportunity to stabilise their campaign and get their season back on track.

The club are yet to officially confirm Sergio’s successor, leaving supporters waiting to see who will be entrusted with the responsibility of leading the team forward.
