Wydad AC in advanced talks with Hussein Ammouta for coaching role

Wydad Athletic Club are reportedly close to appointing Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta as their new head coach, with negotiations between both parties said to be at an advanced stage.

The Moroccan giants has intensified discussions with Ammouta to take charge of the team in the coming period, provided both parties finalize all contractual details.

The development comes after Moroccan coach Tarik Sektioui turned down the opportunity to lead the Casablanca giants. Sektioui was among the names considered for the role but reportedly chose to continue focusing on coaching national teams rather than returning to club football.

Per sources, Sektioui prefers to remain within the international coaching environment while awaiting clarity regarding his future within the national team’s technical setup. His decision prompted Wydad’s management to intensify efforts to secure another experienced coach capable of guiding the club through the remainder of the season.

As a result, Hussein Ammouta has emerged as the top candidate for the position. The Moroccan tactician is highly regarded by Wydad’s leadership, particularly due to his impressive coaching résumé and his successful previous spells with the club.

Ammouta is no stranger to Wydad supporters, having previously led the team during two separate stints. His familiarity with the club’s structure and expectations makes him a strong option to restore stability and competitiveness within the squad.

Meanwhile, Wydad have opted to maintain interim coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem in charge of the team for the time being. Benhachem is expected to lead the side in their upcoming clash against Olympique Safi in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals scheduled for next Sunday.
