Wydad AC deny reports of Coach Amine Benhachem’s dismissal after OC Safi draw

Wydad Athletic Club have dismissed reports suggesting that head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem has been sacked following the team’s draw against Olympique Safi in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter final.

The Moroccan giants were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Olympique Safi on Sunday, a result that triggered strong reactions from supporters who have grown increasingly frustrated with the team’s inconsistent performances under Benhachem.

The outcome intensified criticism directed at the coach, with speculation quickly spreading that the club’s management had decided to part ways with him shortly after the match.

However, Wydad moved swiftly to address the rumours through the club’s official spokesperson, Talal Shaker, who clarified the situation while speaking to the media.

Shaker stated that no decision had been taken regarding the future of the coach and explained that the club intends to carefully assess the current situation before making any moves.

He said, “A meeting is expected to be held between the technical management and the club’s administrative office in the near future.”

According to Shaker, the upcoming meeting will allow the club’s leadership and technical staff to review the team’s performance and discuss the next steps, while firmly denying claims that Benhachem had already been dismissed after the draw.
