Wrexham weigh move for Axel Tuanzebe after Burnley departure

DR Congo and England defender Axel Tuanzebe, currently without a club, has been linked with a move to Wrexham in the Championship.

The 28-year-old centre-back left Burnley on 1 July after one season with the club. Burnley were relegated from the Premier League in 2025-26, having signed Tuanzebe from Ipswich on a free transfer the previous summer.

Tuanzebe has experience in both of England’s top two divisions, making 64 Premier League appearances and 52 Championship appearances during his career. He has also played in the Champions League and Europa League, and spent periods on loan at Aston Villa, Stoke City and Italian side Napoli during his time with Manchester United.

His most recent recorded international tournament campaign saw him start all four of his possible matches at the 2026 World Cup, completing 100% of the available minutes without scoring or assisting.

Tuanzebe began his senior career at Manchester United after progressing through the club’s youth system and won promotion to the top flight with Aston Villa in 2018-19 and Ipswich Town in 2023-24. He was also part of two Manchester United Under-21 sides that won the Premier League 2 title.

Wrexham are preparing for another Championship campaign, while Tuanzebe remains without a club and is available for a potential move.
