Wrexham bring in Gabonese-French defender Jacques Ekomie from Angers
Gabonese-French left-back Jacques Ekomie has joined Wrexham from Angers SCO for €8.15m, strengthening the Welsh club’s squad in the Championship with a defender who has already appeared in Ligue 1 this season.
The 23-year-old has signed a contract with Wrexham running until 30 June 2030. Ekomie, who was born in Libreville, represents the club after making the move from France’s top flight on 27 August 2026.
Ekomie started and completed one Ligue 1 match for Angers during the 2026-27 campaign before switching divisions. He made his senior debut in France after progressing through Bordeaux’s system and joined Angers from Bordeaux in July 2024 on a free transfer.
The left-footed defender spent two seasons with Bordeaux’s senior side after moving up from the club’s B team. His development also included spells with Bordeaux Under-19s, Merignac Under-19s and SA Merignac Under-17s.
The transfer takes Ekomie to Wrexham as the club continues its latest campaign in the Championship. His arrival gives the team another option at left-back, while his experience in Ligue 1 adds top-flight exposure to the squad.
Ekomie’s only recorded senior league appearance before the move came in Ligue 1, where he played 90 minutes for Angers. He now begins a new chapter in the English second tier under a contract lasting four seasons beyond the current campaign.
Wrexham completed the €8.15m transfer from Angers on 27 August, with Ekomie’s deal secured through June 2030.
