The Senegalese women’s handball team gathered in Le Havre, France, on Monday to begin a training camp in preparation for the upcoming World Championships. This camp is part of the team’s efforts to prepare for a strong showing at the Women’s Handball World Championship, which will take place from November 30th to December 15th in Kumamoto, Japan.
According to a press release from the Senegalese Handball Federation, a squad of 20 players, including three local talents—Ndèye Sokhna, Khady Seck, and Ndiolé Sène—returned to France to participate in the training camp. The camp aims to fine-tune strategies, build cohesion, and ensure the Lionesses are physically and mentally ready for the demands of the tournament.
Senegal has been drawn into Group C alongside Romania, Hungary, Montenegro, Spain, and Kazakhstan. The group stage promises tough competition, with each team bringing experience and quality. The Senegalese squad will need to demonstrate both tactical discipline and resilience to advance from this challenging group.
Beyond competing for the World Championship title, the tournament also carries high stakes. The winner of the championship will earn qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games and secure a spot in the next World Handball Championship, adding further motivation for Senegal to perform at its best. The preparation in France is therefore crucial for the team’s ambitions on the global stage.
