For their World Championship debut, the Senegalese women’s handball team, the Lionesses, are brimming with confidence under coach Frédérique Bougeant. With three wins in three preparation matches, Bougeant is determined to make an impression in Japan, starting November 30, 2019.
Placed in Group C alongside Romania, Hungary, Montenegro, Spain, and Kazakhstan, the Lionesses face a tough challenge. Bougeant emphasized the team’s approach: to be respected by opponents, play complete matches, take tactical risks, and adapt as games progress. While recognizing the experience of some rivals, he believes Senegal can compete and seize opportunities, especially if opponents show lapses in focus or humility.
Bougeant, a decorated coach with European and Russian titles, aims to add another achievement to his career with the Senegalese team.
