Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo have reached the end of their journey in the Handball World Cup held in Serbia. In their fifth match of the competition this Wednesday, the two African representatives faced defeat, marking the conclusion of their participation.
On the fifth day, the vice-champion of Africa, Algeria, suffered a loss to the Netherlands with a score of 33-21. Meanwhile, the Congolese women are set to play their final match on Friday against the Dominican Republic.
In the match against China, Algeria fought tenaciously. Despite briefly leading 13-12 just before halftime, Tizi Nabila and her teammates were caught and surpassed by China at the last minute, trailing 13-14 at the break.
Although the Algerians carried their first-half momentum into the second period, a severe 2-minute exclusion against Ratiba towards the end of the game allowed China to secure a 27-25 victory. Consequently, they finished two points apart.
The competition has come to an end for both DR Congo and Algeria. However, Tunisia and Angola are still in the running. Tunisia’s Lionesses face a tough challenge against Germany, while Angola takes on Norway on Thursday. The Lionesses of Carthage must avoid any mistakes to progress further, while Angola possesses the potential to qualify for the round of 16.
