The relocation of the Libya-Togo match from Benghazi to Tripoli has been officially announced by FIFA due to the situation in Benghazi. The match, which is part of the qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, will now take place at the Tripoli Stadium in Tripoli on June 14 at 6:00 p.m. local time.
FIFA made this decision in collaboration with the Libyan federation, taking into consideration the concerns and safety issues related to the situation in Benghazi. However, despite the change in venue, there are still reservations and fears among the Togolese players.
Serge Gakpé, aware of the gunshots heard by the Congolese team during their training in the same city, remains cautious about his participation in the upcoming match. He expressed concerns about taking any risks, referencing the tragic events the Togo national team experienced in 2010. Gakpé hopes that FIFA and CAF (Confederation of African Football) will find a solution to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the match.
Alaixys Romao, Gakpé’s teammate, sounded the alarm on Twitter after Togo’s victory over Cameroon, indicating that there are genuine concerns among the players about the situation and safety in the region. The decision to relocate the match to Tripoli reflects an attempt to address these concerns and ensure the safety of the players and officials
