Former Morocco coach Walid Regragui has celebrated the Atlas Lions’ qualification for the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup following their dramatic victory over the Netherlands.

Morocco secured their place in the next stage after defeating the Dutch side 3-2 on penalties at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico, following a 1-1 draw after regular and extra time in their Round of 32 clash.

The result marked another major achievement for Moroccan football on the world stage, continuing the country’s strong World Cup record in recent years.

Regragui shares ‘Dima Maghreb’ tribute

Regragui, who guided Morocco to a historic semi-final appearance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, reacted to the victory through a post on Instagram.

The former national team coach shared an image celebrating Morocco’s qualification featuring several players alongside current coach Mohamed Wahbi.

The post also included the famous Moroccan chant “Dima Maghreb”, reflecting the celebrations that followed the Atlas Lions’ latest World Cup success.

Morocco continue impressive World Cup journey

Regragui left his role as Morocco coach after the most recent Africa Cup of Nations following a successful spell in charge of the national team.

During his tenure, he helped Morocco achieve one of the greatest runs by an African side in World Cup history by reaching the semi-finals in Qatar four years ago.

Mohamed Wahbi later succeeded him and has now guided the Atlas Lions into the knockout stages once again after eliminating the Netherlands.

Morocco’s victory has further strengthened belief across Africa that the Atlas Lions can continue their impressive run at the tournament.
