Egypt coach Hossam Hassan speaks ahead of World Cup

Egypt coach Hossam Hassan has stressed that unity and collective spirit within the squad will be key as the Pharaohs prepare for their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The North African football powerhouse are stepping up their preparations for the tournament, which is set to begin in mid-June, with expectations high as the country looks to make a strong impact on the global stage.

Egypt have been drawn into Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran, with their opening fixture coming against Belgium in what is expected to be a major early test of their ambitions.

Speaking to the players following Egypt’s recent 1-0 friendly victory over Russia, Hossam Hassan emphasized the importance of teamwork and unity as the squad continues to build momentum ahead of the tournament.

“Everyone in the team is working with one spirit in order to achieve the best results and make the Egyptian fans happy,” the coach said.

Hassan highlighted that collective effort, discipline, and belief will be essential if Egypt are to compete effectively against strong international opposition in the group stage and beyond.

The coach also expressed appreciation for the continued support of key football stakeholders, including Minister of Youth and Sports Gawhar Nabil, EFA president Hani Abu Rida, and the United Company, acknowledging their role in backing the national team’s preparations.

Their support, Hassan noted, has played an important part in maintaining stability around the squad during an intense period of preparation.

Egypt’s recent form has offered encouragement, with the team securing a narrow but important 1-0 win over Russia in their latest friendly match. The only goal of the game came from Pyramids FC forward Mostafa Zico, adding confidence ahead of tougher upcoming challenges.

The Pharaohs are also scheduled to face Brazil in another high-profile friendly on June 7, a match expected to serve as a final major test before the start of the World Cup.

As the countdown continues, Egypt remain focused on building cohesion and sharpening their tactical approach, with Hossam Hassan insisting that unity within the squad will be the foundation of their World Cup ambitions.
