World Cup 2026: “We will come back stronger” – Emerse Fae reacts to Ivory Coast elimination
Emerse Faé reacted calmly and proudly after Ivory Coast’s painful 2–1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup.
Ivory Coast pushed Norway throughout the contest but were ultimately undone by a late winning goal, ending their hopes of progressing further in the tournament.
“We must take our chances”
Speaking to beIN SPORTS, as reported by Foot Mercato, the Ivory Coast coach admitted his side lacked efficiency in front of goal during key moments of the match.
“That’s football; when scoring opportunities present themselves, you have to take advantage of them and convert them into goals,” Faye explained.
“Unfortunately, we conceded that decisive goal in the dying moments of the match. Despite that, the players gave their all and fought bravely until the final whistle, but we faced a courageous opponent who defended resolutely and maintained their lead until the very end.”
Small details decided the match
Faye stressed that knockout football at the highest level is often decided by the smallest moments and fine margins.
“It is the high level of football competitions, where small details always make the difference, and matches are decided by very simple things.”
The coach also highlighted the importance of the experience gained by his young squad during the tournament.
“We must not forget that this was the first World Cup participation for all the members of this generation; they have developed a lot during this tournament, and learned tough and important lessons.”
“This generation will come back stronger”
Despite the disappointment of elimination, Faye expressed confidence in the future of the current Ivory Coast squad and insisted the team would grow from the setback.
“I am sure that we will come back stronger in the future,” he said.
Pride despite elimination
The Ivory Coast coach ended his remarks by praising the commitment shown by his players throughout the tournament and refusing to blame anyone for the defeat.
“We gave everything we had, and we tried in every possible way until the last second of the match.”
“We were not lucky today and the beautiful game did not smile on us, but we will not stop here, but we will continue to work and build for the future.”
