World Cup 2026: We hope we can go far – Egypt captain Mohammed Salah
Egypt captain Mohamed Salah has reiterated the Pharaohs’ determination to make their supporters proud at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that the squad’s entire focus is on preparation and hard work ahead of the tournament.
Speaking to Abu Dhabi Sports Channel, Salah stressed the importance of maintaining concentration during Egypt’s training camp as the team gears up for its return to football’s biggest stage.
“What I’m thinking is that we should just focus on our camp and train harder, and we’ll see what happens in the group,” Salah said.
The former Liverpool forward emphasised that the players are fully committed to giving their best and representing the nation with pride throughout the competition.
“I think we want to make people proud, and yes, we will do our best,” he added.
Salah also acknowledged the difficulty of Egypt’s group, admitting that every team has a realistic chance of progressing to the knockout stages.
“It’s a tough group. Everyone has a chance, so we will give it our all and we’ll see. We hope we can go far,” the Egyptian skipper stated.
The Pharaohs have arrived in Spokane, United States, where they will complete the final phase of their preparations under head coach Hossam Hassan ahead of the tournament.
Egypt have been drawn in a challenging group alongside Belgium, Iran and New Zealand. The North Africans are aiming to make a strong start in order to boost their chances of reaching the knockout rounds.
The Pharaohs will open their World Cup campaign against Belgium on June 15 in a match widely viewed as one of the key fixtures in Group G. A positive result could significantly strengthen Egypt’s hopes of advancing to the next stage of the competition.
With high expectations surrounding the team, Egypt will be relying heavily on the leadership and experience of Salah, who remains the country’s most influential player and one of the biggest stars at the tournament.
Having established himself as one of the finest footballers of his generation, Salah is expected to play a central role both on and off the pitch as Egypt seek to make an impact on the global stage.
As the countdown to the World Cup continues, the message from the Egyptian captain is clear: stay focused, work hard and give everything for the nation. Egypt’s players now face the challenge of turning that determination into results when their campaign gets underway in the United States.
