World Cup 2026: Mohamed Ouahbi addresses Bayern Munich links to Ismael Saibari
Morocco national team coach Mohamed Ouahbi has moved to calm speculation surrounding Ismael Saibari’s reported links with Bayern Munich, insisting the midfielder remains fully focused on the Atlas Lions’ World Cup campaign.
The PSV Eindhoven star has been one of Morocco’s standout performers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring in the 1-1 draw against Brazil in the opening round of Group C. However, growing transfer reports have placed his future in the spotlight during the tournament.
Ouahbi Says Saibari Remains Calm Amid Transfer Talk
Speaking to Moroccan outlet Al-Botola, Ouahbi explained that discussions around Saibari’s future have not yet been finalised and should not be a distraction for the player or the national team.
“The timing issue is not in our hands, and this is clear, and the deal itself has not been officially finalised yet. We are very proud when Moroccan players move to major clubs, and Bayern Munich is one of these major clubs. Also, the player seems very calm and settled at this time, and there is no tension in the matter,” Ouahbi said.
The Morocco coach stressed that Saibari’s current mindset remains unaffected by transfer speculation as he continues to focus on international duty.
Bayern Munich Situation Described as Calm
Ouahbi also addressed reports suggesting Bayern Munich are actively pushing to complete a deal during the tournament period, dismissing any claims of pressure from the German club.
“I don’t think Bayern Munich is using a pressure or escalation approach in communication. Things are going well and calmly between all parties, and the player is currently fully focused on the Moroccan national team,” he added.
He further noted his personal understanding of Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany, suggesting the Belgian manager is fully aware of the circumstances surrounding the player’s current commitments.
“I know Vincent Kompany very well, and I think he understands the situation too, and knows that the priority now is the Moroccan national team.”
Morocco Proud of Rising Stars
Ouahbi also expressed pride in seeing Moroccan players linked with top European clubs, highlighting Bayern Munich as one of the elite destinations for emerging talent.
“We are optimistic and relaxed, and we will be very proud if this move takes place, because it will be towards a big club, and our goal is always to see our best Moroccan players in the biggest clubs in the world,” he said.
Saibari’s Form Adds to Growing Interest
Saibari’s performances at the tournament have only increased attention around his future, with his goal against Brazil underlining his growing influence on the international stage.
Recent reports have claimed that the midfielder has already reached an agreement with Bayern Munich and even completed a medical in the United States ahead of a potential move after the World Cup. However, no official confirmation has been made.
For now, Morocco’s focus remains firmly on their World Cup campaign, with Saibari continuing to play a key role for the Atlas Lions on football’s biggest stage.
