Morocco's opponents for the 2026 FIFA World Cup suffer major setback in March international break

Morocco are quietly building momentum ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with recent results suggesting a potentially favourable path for the Atlas Lions.

Now led by head coach Mohamed Ouahbi, Morocco are aiming to recreate the historic success achieved under Walid Regragui, who guided the nation to a remarkable fourth-place finish at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a milestone for both African and Arab football.

With the next tournament set to be hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico, expectations remain high as Morocco prepare for another shot at global glory.

Drawn in Group C, Morocco will face stiff competition from Brazil, Haiti and Scotland.

Interestingly, all three of Morocco’s group-stage opponents endured defeats in their opening friendly matches during the March international break. Brazil fell to a 2-1 loss against France, Haiti were beaten 1-0 by Tunisia, while Scotland also slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Japan.

In contrast, Morocco avoided defeat, securing a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Ecuador national football team. The result, though not a victory, demonstrated resilience and composure as the team continues to adapt under new leadership.

While friendly results do not always reflect what will happen on the biggest stage, the struggles of Morocco’s group opponents could offer a psychological boost to the Atlas Lions as preparations intensify.

With confidence gradually building and lessons being absorbed, Morocco will be hoping these early signs translate into another memorable campaign when the World Cup finally kicks off.
