World Cup 2026: Ivory Coast 1-0 Ecuador Player Ratings
Ivory Coast made a winning start to their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ecuador in Group E, thanks to a dramatic late winner from substitute Amad Diallo in Philadelphia.
The match was far more entertaining than the scoreline suggests, with both sides creating numerous chances and the woodwork playing a major role throughout the contest.
Match Report
The Elephants were pushed all the way by a determined Ecuador side in a thrilling encounter at Philadelphia Stadium. Ecuador struck the crossbar twice through John Yeboah and Alan Minda, while Ivory Coast also came close when Elye Wahi hit the woodwork after excellent work from teenage sensation Yan Diomande.
For much of the game it looked destined to end goalless. However, in the 90th minute, Wilfried Singo burst down the right flank and delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Amad Diallo. The Manchester United winger kept his composure and curled the ball into the far corner to hand Ivory Coast a priceless three points.
The result puts the Ivorians in a strong position in Group E, which also includes Germany and Curacao.
