World Cup 2026: Infantino meets Trump to discuss preparations and Iran’s participation

The President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Mr. Gianni Infantino, has disclosed that he met with the former President of the United States, Mr. Donald J. Trump, to discuss the preparations for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, which continues to gain momentum.

In his Instagram post on Tuesday evening, Infantino explained that he had the meeting with Mr. Trump to discuss the United States’ preparedness ahead of the tournament.

The tournament will be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with the former being the main host of the tournament.

In his Instagram post, Infantino explained that the meeting with Mr. Trump also included the discussion of geopolitical issues concerning the tournament, including the participation of the Iranian team, which has already qualified to participate in the tournament.

According to Infantino, Trump reassured him that the Iranian team would be welcomed to compete in the tournament in the United States.

“This evening, I met with the President of the United States of America, Mr. Donald J. Trump to discuss the status of preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, and the growing excitement as we are set to kick off in just 93 days.”

“We also discussed the current situation in Iran, and that the Iranian team has qualified to participate in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Within the context of the above discussions, it is mentioned that President Trump reiterated that ‘the Iranian team is of course welcome to compete in the tournament to be held in the USA’.”

FIFA boss Infantino emphasized that the world football event is an important platform of unity during critical times globally.

“We all need an event like the FIFA World Cup to bring people together now more than ever. I would like to sincerely thank the President of the United States of America for his support. It is evident once again that football unites the world.”

It is mentioned that the 2026 edition of the world football event is going to be historic as it is going to be the first edition of the competition to feature 48 teams.
