World Cup 2026: Ghana’s Inaki Williams proud of Black Stars despite round 32 elimination
Ghana international Inaki Williams is proud of the Black Stars despite falling short in the round 32 of the 2026 World Cup tournament, co-hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The West African powerhouse exited the tournament after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Colombia at the Kansas City Stadium last Saturday. Jhon Arias’ first-half strike was enough for the South America outfit to progress to the round 16 of the global showpiece, being co-hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Despite the teams exit, Williams, who is the captain of Spanish outfit Athletic Bilbao has taken to social media to praise the performance of the Black Stars, while promising a stronger comeback.
“Proud of this team and of all the work we’ve done. We all wanted more, but seeing the whole country come together again to give strength to the Black Stars has been truly special. From the heart, thank you Ghana. We’ll come back” he wrote on social media.
The Black Stars reached the knockout stage as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams after finishing third in Group L. Their campaign included a 1-0 victory over Panama, a goalless draw against England and a 2-1 defeat to Croatia.
Ghana will now turn their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin in September, as they seek to rebuild for the next phase of international competition.
