Morocco’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have received a significant boost with the arrival of Royal Moroccan Football Federation president Fouzi Lekjaa in the United States ahead of the team’s opening fixture against Brazil.

Federation President Joins Atlas Lions Camp

With less than 48 hours remaining before Morocco begins its World Cup campaign, Lekjaa joined the national team’s delegation in New Jersey, where the Atlas Lions have been based since arriving in the United States.

The federation chief met with players and members of the technical team led by head coach Mohamed Ouahbi as preparations intensify for the highly anticipated Group C showdown against Brazil at MetLife Stadium.

His visit forms part of the federation’s continued support for the national team as it prepares to face one of the tournament favourites in its opening match.

Injury Setbacks Fail to Disrupt Preparations

Morocco’s build-up to the World Cup has not been without challenges following the withdrawal of Nayef Aguerd and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli through injury.

Despite losing two important members of the squad, the atmosphere within the camp has remained positive, with players maintaining their focus on the task ahead as they prepare for a demanding group stage campaign.

The Atlas Lions continued their preparations on Thursday with a training session at Pingry School in New Jersey, fine-tuning their plans ahead of Saturday’s clash with Brazil.

Ouahbi Set to Address the Media

Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi is expected to provide further insight into Morocco’s preparations when he faces the media on Friday.

The press conference is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. local time in New Jersey, which corresponds to 8:30 p.m. in Morocco. The coach is anticipated to discuss the team’s readiness and expectations ahead of the opening encounter.

Atlas Lions Eye Strong Start

Morocco will launch its World Cup campaign against Brazil on Saturday, June 13, with kick-off set for 6:00 p.m. local time and 11:00 p.m. in Morocco.

Following the Brazil fixture, the Atlas Lions will take on Scotland in Boston on June 19 before completing their Group C schedule against Haiti in Atlanta on June 24. Both matches are also scheduled to kick off at 11:00 p.m. Moroccan time.

As the countdown to the tournament opener continues, Morocco remains in New Jersey focused on making a strong start to its World Cup journey.
