World Cup 2026: Czechia 1-1 South Africa Player Ratings

South Africa kept their World Cup hopes alive with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Czechia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Bafana Bafana showed tremendous resilience after conceding the fastest goal of the tournament and were rewarded with a late equaliser from Teboho Mokoena, who once again proved why he is one of the team’s most influential players. The result leaves Group A finely balanced heading into the final round of matches.

Match Report

The match got off to the worst possible start for South Africa when Czechia struck after just six minutes. Michal Sadilek finished off a well-worked move to hand the Europeans an early advantage and put Bafana Bafana under immediate pressure.

For much of the first half, South Africa struggled to establish control and found it difficult to create clear opportunities. However, Hugo Broos’ side improved after the break, with Teboho Mokoena taking charge in midfield and helping his team push higher up the pitch.

Despite Czechia creating several chances to put the match beyond reach, South Africa remained in the contest. Their persistence was rewarded in the 83rd minute when they were awarded a penalty following a handball decision. Mokoena stepped up confidently and converted from the spot to earn Bafana Bafana a valuable point.

The draw means South Africa remain in contention for qualification ahead of their final group match.
