World Cup 2026: Brahim Diaz fires warning to Mbappé ahead of France showdown
Morocco forward Brahim Diaz has insisted that his Real Madrid teammate Kylian Mbappé will be “just another opponent” when the Atlas Lions face France in the World Cup quarter-finals.
Football fans are eagerly anticipating the highly anticipated showdown between Morocco and France, with the North Africans aiming to continue their historic run and reach the semi-finals of the tournament for the second consecutive edition.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Diaz admitted he has huge respect for Mbappé but stressed that friendships will be put aside once the game begins.
“Mbappé? On the pitch, he will just be another opponent. I am confident that we will perform well. I am personally ready. I will face Kylian and Aurélien again, yes, but on the pitch, we are opponents,” Diaz said, as reported by AS.
The Moroccan star has been one of the standout performers at the tournament, contributing four assists so far, but he insists individual statistics are secondary to team success.
“The most important thing is not the goals or the assists, but if I can help the team win, I will. It is a match that we all dream of playing in. It is not me who matters, but the team. If I can create goals, that is great, but I prefer to win,” he added.
Diaz also praised Morocco teammate Achraf Hakimi, describing the Paris Saint-Germain defender as a key figure and leader within the squad.
“I have nothing but good things to say about Achraf. He is our leader. We are very happy to have him, and it is a pleasure to play with him and belong to this team. Every player is important. We are doing our best for Morocco, for this country, and having a player like Achraf makes us very happy,” he said.
Morocco will hope Diaz can inspire another memorable performance as they chase a place in the World Cup semi-finals against a star-studded French side.
