World Cup 2026

Africa’s representation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has now been reduced to two teams following the conclusion of the Round of 32 stage.

Morocco and Egypt remain the continent’s final hopes as the tournament enters the Round of 16, with both nations surviving dramatic knockout encounters to continue their World Cup journey.

Morocco booked their place after edging past the Netherlands on penalties following a 1-1 draw, while Egypt also needed a shootout victory to eliminate Australia after another tense stalemate.

Several African nations saw their campaigns end in the previous round, including Ghana, Senegal, Algeria, DR Congo, Ivory Coast and Cape Verde.
