Madjid Bougherra is making a return to the national team! After being sidelined due to an adductor injury for several months, the Algerian international defender from Lekhwiya (Qatari Division 1) has been called up for the upcoming match against Benin. Bougherra expresses his joy at rejoining the Greens after an extended absence.
“It’s a bit weird. I feel like this is my first selection. It’s been over nine months since I last played for my country, and I really missed it. Deep down, I feel enormous relief. Physically, I feel better; it’s been two months since I played with Lekhwiya,” Bougherra stated.
Although he is not returning as the captain, Bougherra sees his role as that of a big brother within the team. He aims to use his experience to guide the young group, providing insights on how to navigate challenges on the pitch and sharing strategies for approaching duels in African football.
