Women’s U20 World Cup: South Korea fight back to draw level with Italy

South Korea and Italy went into half-time level at 1-1 after an open and fast-paced first half in their Women’s U20 World Cup meeting.

Italy’s pressure was rewarded in the 16th minute when K. Appiah put the Squadra Azzurra ahead, finishing after being set up by G. Pellegrino.

South Korea were forced to defend for long periods as they searched for a response, but found an equaliser just before the interval. Lee Hae-Un converted Han Min-Seo’s assist in the 43rd minute to bring the two sides level.

The half-time statistics reflected Italy’s control of possession, with the European side holding 59%.

Italy also created the greater threat in front of goal, registering 10 shots to South Korea’s three. They made 30 touches inside the opposition penalty area, underlining their dominance during the opening 45 minutes despite the score remaining completely even.
