Womens U20 World Cup: Comendador, Choe Yon and Paz share scoring lead

Pau Comendador, Choe Yon and Annika Paz are level at the top of the Women’s U20 World Cup scoring charts after each finding the net five times.

The race for the Golden Boot remains closely contested in Poland, with Spain’s Comendador and Argentina’s Paz also registering one assist apiece. They have been among the tournament’s most productive attacking players, but North Korea’s Choe Yon has matched their goal tally despite not yet providing an assist.

Choe Yon has been central to North Korea’s hopes, scoring all five of her goals inside the opposition penalty area.

Six players are immediately behind the leading trio on four goals. Italy’s Karen Appiah, Spain’s Celia Segura and Marisa Garcia, England’s Rachel Maltby, China’s Huang Jiaxin and Canada’s Kaylee Hunter remain within reach of the leaders.

The semi-final between Italy and Spain will provide an important opportunity for several of the leading scorers to add to their totals. Appiah will face Segura and Garcia, while Choe Yon also remains in contention with North Korea.

Three African forwards scored three goals each before their teams were eliminated from the competition. Nigeria’s Winner Onajite David and Ramotolahi Kareem, along with Benin’s Romaine Gandonou, completed the leading group of scorers below the top two tiers.
