Women’s U20 World Cup: Canada lead Tanzania after Ester Maseke own goal

The Canadian youngsters made the most of their early spell of pressure, taking the lead in the seventh minute when Tanzania defender Ester Maseke inadvertently turned the ball into her own net.

Tanzania have tried to respond to the setback, but Canada’s disciplined organisation has made it difficult for them to create a clear opening. The result means Canada are currently in a position to qualify for the round of 16.

The North American side’s narrow advantage also leaves them in a strong position as they head into the interval, with the score giving them considerable security in the group standings.
