Ghana Coach Youssif Basigi Braces for Tough CAN 2014 Group
As the 9th edition of the African Women’s Championship (CAN 2014) approaches, Ghana’s national women’s team, the Black Queens, are gearing up for a challenging campaign in Group B, which includes Algeria, Cameroon, and South Africa.
Coach Youssif Basigi described the group as “tough”, emphasizing the quality of the opposition:
“We are aware that we will face strong opposition in this group in the presence of good teams. I think the fight will be fierce to qualify for the semi-finals,” he told the official website of the Namibian Football Association (NFA).
The Black Queens will kick off their campaign on October 12 against Algeria, followed by crucial matches against South Africa (Oct. 15) and Cameroon (Oct. 18).
Despite the high stakes, Basigi remains optimistic:
“We will take it match by match. We are confident. Our goal is to go as far as possible in this tournament.”
He also appealed to local fans in Namibia to rally behind Ghana:
“We hope the inhabitants of the region where the team is staying will support us during our matches.”
Ghana’s preparation appears focused and determined, as they aim to make a deep run in this prestigious continental tournament.
