Togo’s Razak Boukari Ruled Out of Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers
Togo’s national team faces a major setback ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for Morocco 2015, as key midfielder Razak Boukari is set to miss the start of the campaign due to injury.
The Togolese international has been sidelined for over a month with a hamstring injury that requires surgery. Initially expected to be out for six weeks with a return planned for September, the former Rennes player now faces a longer recovery period, with his return pushed back to late November.
Boukari, who was loaned to Sochaux during the winter transfer window, recently completed a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The English side will compete in the Championship—the second tier of English football—this season.
Togo is drawn in Group E for the upcoming qualifiers and will open their campaign against Guinea in Morocco. They will then host Ghana in Lomé on 10 September, matches that will be crucial to their hopes of reaching the continental finals.
Coach Tchanilé Tchakala will now have to adjust his squad plans in the absence of Boukari as Togo seek to navigate a challenging qualification phase.
