Despite their comfortable 6-1 lead from the first leg in Germany, Real Madrid didn’t ease off against Schalke 04 at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday. The Merengues secured another victory with a 3-1 win, with Cristiano Ronaldo putting in a standout performance.
It was Ronaldo who broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, but Schalke managed to equalize through Hoggland before halftime. However, Real came out strong in the second half. Ronaldo netted two more goals, completing his hat-trick, before Alvaro Morata added a third for Real Madrid.
With a total aggregate score of 9-2 across both legs, Real Madrid comfortably secured their place in the next round.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s impressive performance in the Champions League continues, with his 13 goals this season leaving him just one shy of the single-season record of 14, held by Lionel Messi in the 2011/12 season.
