Willian Salomao joins Xaghra United as Angola and Portugal centre-back begins new chapter

Angola and Portugal centre-back Willian Salomao has joined Xaghra United, strengthening the Gozo League club’s defence after a spell without a club.

The 29-year-old makes the move on 17 September 2026, having most recently played for Mosta FC. Salomao left Mosta on 1 July and has now returned to football with Xaghra United.

Born in Luanda, Salomao stands at 1.94m and operates primarily as a central defender. He is right-footed and brings experience from football in Portugal and Malta, having represented clubs across both countries during his career.

His most recent spell before joining Xaghra came at Mosta, whom he joined from Tarxien on 3 February 2026. That move was completed as a free transfer, following his departure from Tarxien, where he had arrived from Portuguese club Cinfaes in July 2025.

Salomao’s career record includes 21 appearances and two goals in Portugal’s CP – Serie B. He also made 14 appearances in the Premier League Opening Round and 11 in the Premier League Closing Round, scoring once in the opening phase. His experience includes appearances in the Taca de Portugal, Jubilee Cup, Liga 3 and the Maltese FA Trophy.

Before moving to Malta, the defender spent time with Cinfaes and had earlier spells at Moncarapachense, FC Alpendorada, Gondomar, Pedras Rubras, Canelas 2010 and Uniao Madeira. He began that sequence of Portuguese club moves after leaving GD Interclube in February 2019.

The switch to Xaghra United gives Salomao a new opportunity in the Gozo League, following his recent period between clubs. His arrival also extends a career in which he has regularly moved between teams in Portugal’s lower divisions and Maltese football.

Salomao’s market value is €200,000, according to the latest recorded assessment dated 19 May 2026, although no transfer fee has been attached to his move to Xaghra United.

The defender has now completed his move to Xaghra United and is part of the club’s squad for the 2026-27 season.
