Liège defender William Vainqueur, who sustained a thigh injury during the Europa League match against Reykjavik, will be sidelined for an extended period. The Franco-Haitian player underwent examinations on Friday morning, revealing a tear in the back of his left thigh.
The injury diagnosis indicates that Vainqueur will be unavailable for a period ranging from 4 to 6 weeks, according to the official announcement on the Liège club’s website. The club estimates the duration of his unavailability to be around 5 weeks.
This setback comes after Standard Liège secured a 1-3 victory in the Europa League’s second preliminary round against Reykjavik. However, Vainqueur’s absence will be felt as the team prepares to host the return leg against the Icelandic opponents next Thursday.
