Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed enthusiasm over the possibility of Mohamed Salah joining the Saudi Pro League, a move that has been widely speculated in recent transfer windows.
The Liverpool forward was heavily linked with Al-Hilal last summer, and discussions around his future continue to attract attention.
Troost-Ekong excited by Salah’s potential arrival
In an interview with talkSPORT, Troost-Ekong shared his thoughts on the Egyptian superstar potentially moving to Saudi Arabia, where the league has been attracting some of the world’s top players.
I think there’s a lot of talk about Mo Salah coming to Al-Hilal.
That’s the club that’s been mentioned, Troost-Ekong said.
The Nigerian defender, who currently plays for Al-Nassr, acknowledged that Salah’s presence would make the league even more competitive, but he remains eager to see top talents continue joining the rapidly growing competition.
He’s probably the most sought-after player in Saudi Arabia, not just because of his footballing ability but also due to his origins and the affection people have for him, he added.
A challenging but exciting prospect
While welcoming Salah to the league, Troost-Ekong admitted it would make his own job more difficult, as he would have to face one of the world’s best attackers multiple times each season.
It will add two very difficult games to my season, but I would be very happy to see great players coming to the Saudi League, he concluded.
Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in World football
The Saudi Pro League has emerged as a major force in the transfer market, securing high-profile signings such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, and Karim Benzema in recent years.
Clubs backed by the country’s ambitious football project are keen to attract even more elite players, with Salah considered a marquee target.
Despite Liverpool’s reluctance to let him go, speculation persists about whether the 31-year-old will eventually make the switch, especially as Saudi clubs remain determined to secure his signature.
As the Saudi Pro League continues to evolve into a global football hub, the potential arrival of a player of Salah’s calibre would further raise its profile, adding another exciting chapter to its rapid growth.
