Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed confidence ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe, insisting that tactical changes will not be a problem for the team.
Nigeria, under the guidance of head coach Eric Chelle, will face the Warriors on Tuesday evening at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
With the Super Eagles aiming to build on their recent victory over Rwanda, Troost-Ekong remains optimistic about their ability to adapt and secure another crucial win.
Confidence in tactical adaptability
The Super Eagles ended a frustrating run of results with a 2-0 win against Rwanda in their previous fixture, a match in which Chelle introduced tactical adjustments.
Despite the changes, Troost-Ekong believes Nigeria’s squad is more than capable of adapting.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Monday, the Super Eagles captain praised the intelligence and flexibility of his teammates.
“We’ve got a lot of intelligent players who play at a high level,” he said. “They’re used to changing tactics, so it’s not like we need to spell out how to play football.

“The coach said before that we have a lot of quality in the team. And we saw that in the last game.”
His comments reflect the growing confidence within the squad as they prepare to take on a Zimbabwe side that has struggled in the qualifiers.
Super Eagles eye vital three points
Nigeria currently sits fourth in the Group C standings with six points, having endured a slow start to their qualification campaign.
A victory against Zimbabwe, who are bottom of the table, would provide a significant boost in their pursuit of a World Cup spot.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe enters the contest desperate for points after a series of underwhelming performances.
The Warriors managed to salvage a 2-2 draw against Benin in their last outing, but they remain in search of their first victory of the campaign.
With the Super Eagles playing in front of their home crowd and coming off an encouraging result, expectations are high for a dominant performance.
Troost-Ekong and his teammates will be aiming to maintain their momentum and secure a vital win that could improve their standing in the race for World Cup qualification.
