Belgium’s Standard Liège could face the departure of star attacking midfielder William Balikwisha at the end of the season, with the Congolese international expressing a strong preference for a move to the Spanish Liga.
Balikwisha, who has been a standout performer for Standard Liège this season, has caught the attention of clubs across Europe, notably Sevilla FC, who are reportedly prepared to offer €3 million to secure his services.
The 24-year-old midfielder’s stellar performances have earned him accolades, including being named the Jupiler Pro League Player of the Month in April.
However, his ambitions extend beyond Belgian football, as he revealed in an interview with Standard Liège’s official website.
“Spanish football suits my style of play,” Balikwisha remarked, indicating his inclination towards La Liga. “While I have admiration for the Premier League, I believe my footballing style may be better suited to Spain. It’s an exciting prospect.”
Balikwisha’s sentiments align with Sevilla FC’s reported interest, suggesting a potential match between player and club.
The allure of Spanish football, known for its technical and possession-based style, appears to resonate with the midfielder.
Throughout the current season, Balikwisha has made significant contributions to Standard Liège’s campaign, featuring in 28 matches across all competitions and tallying three goals and two assists.
Despite his contract with Standard Liège running until June 2025, Balikwisha’s market value has surged to €2 million, according to Transfermarkt, reflecting his growing stature in European football.
As the summer transfer window approaches, speculation surrounding Balikwisha’s future intensifies, with all eyes on whether he will make the leap to La Liga and fulfill his ambitions in Spanish football.
