Al Ahly defender Yassin Marei has expressed his delight following his outfit qualification to the quarterfinal of the CAF Champions League campaign.

The record Champions League holders settled for a pulsating goalless draw against JS Kabylie in the penultimate group stage clash, held at the Stade Hocine Aït Ahmed on Saturday, February 8, 2026.

Despite creating scoring opportunities, both teams were unable to find the back of the net as the game ended in a stalemate.

The draw sees JS Kabylie bow out of the CAF’s elite club competition despite having a game at hand in Group B, while Al Ahly secures a place in the knockout stage.

Speaking to the club’s website, the 24-year-old centre-back stressed his outfit has succeeded in making a great strides towards their Champions League title quest.

“We are happy that the team has qualified for the next round of the African Champions League. We were aiming for victory, but the most important thing is qualifying for the next round.”

“We have succeeded in making great strides towards achieving the championship we are striving for by securing qualification, and we are now awaiting the final match to determine the top spot in the group, which is what the players are strongly aiming for in the next stage.”

“All matches in the African Champions League are extremely difficult, and the team prepares well for each match despite the pressure of the matches, but we are used to these circumstances and we promise the fans to do our best in the upcoming matches.”

The Egyptian giants will take on FAR Rabat, who are second (8 points) in the final round of games in Group B, a match that will determine the winner of the group.

Al Ahly are gearing up for domestic competition and are expected to take on Ismaily in the Egyptian Premier League matchday 18 on Wednesday at Borg El Arab Stadium.

Al Ahly had drawn their last league match against National Bank with one goal each, leaving them in fourth place with 27 points, one point behind both Zamalek and Pyramids.
