West Ham United are set to complete the permanent signing of French defender Jean-Clair Todibo from OGC Nice for a reported fee of £36.3 million.
The move follows the activation of a mandatory purchase clause in his loan agreement, triggered by the Hammers securing their Premier League status for another season.
Born in French Guiana, an overseas region of France, Todibo has made 25 appearances for West Ham during the 2024–25 campaign, despite facing injury setbacks.
The 24-year-old initially joined the East London club on a season-long loan in August 2024, with the deal including an obligation to buy contingent upon the team’s survival in the top flight.
West Ham’s Premier League safety was mathematically confirmed following Ipswich Town’s defeat to Newcastle United, which ensured the activation of Todibo’s transfer clause.
The finalization of the deal is expected to be completed by July 1, with only minor details remaining to be agreed between the two clubs.
Manager Graham Potter has expressed confidence in Todibo’s potential, stating that the defender possesses high-level qualities and will only improve further as he gains full fitness.
Todibo’s professional journey began at Toulouse, and he has since had spells with Barcelona, Schalke 04, Benfica, and Nice before moving to the Premier League.
Known for his composure on the ball and strong defensive presence, he is seen as a key figure for West Ham’s ambitions moving forward.
With the permanent addition of Todibo, West Ham aim to solidify their defensive ranks ahead of next season.
