Diafra Sakho Opens Up About Homesickness and Family Separation
Diafra Sakho, who made a high-profile move from FC Metz to West Ham last summer, has spoken candidly about the challenges of being separated from his family. The Senegalese striker, accustomed to being close to his loved ones, is finding it difficult to cope with their absence in England.
In an interview with The Daily Express, Sakho revealed that while he stays connected with his family via Skype, it’s not the same as having them physically nearby. “Of course I miss my family and vice versa. But we are on Skype all the time and I try to talk with her. We adapt to the situation. She is not that far away and she comes to see me frequently which makes me happy,” Sakho shared.
The 25-year-old striker also reflected on his father’s sacrifices when he was young, saying, “When I was young, my father did exactly the same thing. He left to earn money for the family.” Despite the emotional toll, Sakho remains focused on his career, but admits that having his family close would bring him greater mental stability.
While Sakho enjoyed a stellar first half of the season with West Ham, helping propel the team to the top of the Premier League, their form has faltered since the turn of the year. Currently sitting 9th in the league with 43 points, West Ham’s earlier promise of a top-four finish now seems distant. Nonetheless, Sakho’s determination to overcome personal challenges off the pitch and contribute to his team’s recovery remains steadfast.
