Newcastle Show Interest in West Ham’s Diafra Sakho After Impressive Premier League Debut
By BBC Sport Africa
Senegalese striker Diafra Sakho has emerged as a transfer target for Newcastle United following an impressive debut season with West Ham United, according to reports from the London Evening News.
Signed last summer from French side FC Metz after a standout campaign in Ligue 2, Sakho has made an immediate impact in English football. Despite being hampered by injuries, the 25-year-old managed to score 12 goals and provide two assists across all competitions during the 2014–15 season.
His powerful performances and instinctive finishing have reportedly caught the attention of Newcastle, who are believed to be exploring a potential summer move to bolster their attacking options. However, West Ham are currently unwilling to entertain any offers for the Senegal international, having identified him as a key part of their future plans.
Sakho enjoyed a brilliant start to his Premier League career, quickly becoming a fan favourite at Upton Park with his clinical touch and tireless work ethic. But like West Ham’s season as a whole, his form dipped slightly in the latter stages of the campaign as injuries took their toll.
With three years still remaining on his contract, the Hammers are under no pressure to sell and are expected to resist interest unless a substantial offer is made.
Sakho’s potential departure would represent a significant loss for West Ham, while for Newcastle, it would be a bold move to revitalise their forward line after a disappointing season. For now, however, the striker remains firmly in West Ham colours—at least until further developments in the transfer window.
