West Bromwich Albion have officially signed promising Italian midfielder Dauda Iddrisa to his first professional contract, committing the 17-year-old to the club until June 2027.
The announcement marks a significant step in the young player’s development, as he continues to impress within the club’s academy system.
A rapid rise through the ranks
Born in Brescia, Italy, Iddrisa has progressed swiftly through the ranks at West Brom since joining on a youth contract last summer.
His potential was evident early on, earning him a place in the U21 squad’s pre-season tour in Slovenia.
At just 16, he made his senior debut in August 2024 during a Carabao Cup match against Fleetwood Town, a milestone that showcased his ability to perform at a higher level.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Iddrisa has also demonstrated versatility by stepping into central defense when needed.
His performances in Premier League 2, combined with his contributions in the FA Youth Cup for the U18s, solidified his reputation as one of the club’s brightest prospects.
Recognition from club and country
Iddrisa’s talent has not gone unnoticed beyond West Bromwich Albion.
The young star has already been capped at the U17 level for Italy, reflecting his growing status in European football.
His signing represents a significant investment in the future for West Brom, as Academy Director Richard Stevens highlighted:
Iddrisa is a wonderful boy, he loves football, he loves the club, and he has been here for a long time,” Stevens said.
He also emphasized the importance of securing young talents like Iddrisa as part of the club’s long-term vision:
I think it’s important for the club to have young, exciting players committed to its future because a lot of work is going on within the academy system.
The ultimate goal is to get these boys through to the first team.
Iddrisa joins fellow prospects Ollie Bostock and Cole Deeming, who have also recently signed professional deals with the club.
Overcoming challenges with determination
While his progress has been impressive, Iddrisa’s journey has not been without setbacks.
The teenager has battled injuries in recent years, but his perseverance and commitment have only strengthened his resolve.
He has suffered from injuries in recent years and has had to show a lot of character and resilience.
But his commitment to us shows that this club is going in the right direction,” added Stevens.
A promising future ahead
With his professional contract now secured, Iddrisa is poised for further development within an environment that nurtures young talent.
Under West Bromwich Albion’s current setup, he will have opportunities to break into the first team in the coming seasons, continuing his impressive trajectory in English football.
As the club looks to build for the future, Iddrisa’s signing is a testament to their commitment to youth development and the belief that he has the potential to become a key player in the years ahead.
