Wessam Abu Ali’s future with Egyptian giants Al Ahly remains uncertain after tensions escalated over a potential move to the United States.
The striker reportedly wants to join MLS side Columbus Crew, but Al Ahly insists the offers received so far do not meet their valuation.
The club released a statement on Sunday saying it had rejected all bids for the player due to financial reasons. This did not sit well with Abu Ali, who responded by posting a controversial image on Instagram showing himself with one finger to his mouth and another in his ear, a gesture interpreted as a sign of defiance. He later deleted the post.
“Wissam Abu Ali and his Belgian agent are putting a lot of pressure on Al Ahly’s management to accept the offer from Columbus Crew,” a sourve told Kooora.
Despite the controversy, Abu Ali reported to Cairo and began preseason training with the team. Al Ahly is now expected to demand either full commitment or a formal offer of at least $10 million before considering his release.
