Wessam Abu Ali is finally on course to begin his new adventure in Major League Soccer, with travel plans to the United States confirmed for this weekend.
The Palestinian striker will leave Cairo for his official unveiling as a Columbus Crew player, ending weeks of speculation over the move.
Rumors had swirled that Abu Ali requested to train with Al Ahly until his visa was ready, but an Al Ahly source told Kooora this was untrue.
“There is no crisis in the deal, and everything that has been circulating in the past hours is a kind of vacuum because the player is only completing his visa procedures,” the source said.
Once he arrives in the US and is presented to the media, Columbus Crew will release the agreed transfer payment to Al Ahly.
The deal, worth $7.5 million plus $1 million in bonuses and a 10% resale clause, had stirred controversy after delays in payment and travel. Now, with his departure imminent, Abu Ali’s long-awaited move looks set to become reality.
