Wessam Abou Ali is on the verge of completing a move to American side Columbus Crew, closing the curtain on a tense spell at Al Ahly.
The striker is expected to depart within hours, bringing an end to ongoing uncertainty around his future.
Al Ahly will earn $8 million from the transfer, plus $2 million in performance-related bonuses and a 20% resale clause. According to Egyptian and Saudi football specialist Mohamed Shaddad, Abou Ali also waived $1 million from his contract to help push the deal through.
Shaddad adds that the American club declined to comment when approached, another sign that the move is all but done. Meanwhile, Al-Ahly had already taken disciplinary steps, deducting 30% from his monthly wages and cutting 20% from his secondary contract due to missed physical and visual assessments.
Tensions between the player and club have been burning for weeks, but with this deal near completion, both sides appear ready to move on. An official announcement is expected soon as Abou Ali begins a new chapter abroad.
