Wesley Fofana determined to stay at Chelsea despite Barcelona links

Wesley Fofana is not planning to leave Chelsea this summer, despite uncertainty over his role and reported interest from Barcelona.

According to the Daily Mail, sources close to the defender say the 25-year-old remains fully committed to the club even though he has recently slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge. The centre-back, on a long-term deal and earning around £200,000 per week, is focused on fighting for his place rather than pushing for a transfer.

Fofana’s situation has sparked speculation after a difficult spell in which he last played in the 3–0 defeat to Brighton, when he was taken off at half-time. Since then, he has been an unused substitute in the FA Cup semi-final against Leeds and the Premier League loss to Nottingham Forest, raising questions about his standing in the squad. Barcelona have been linked with a move, but people close to the player insist he is not actively seeking an exit from west London.

Chelsea signed Fofana from Leicester City in 2022 in a deal worth up to £75 million, tying him down until 2029. With the club likely to review their high earners after missing out on Champions League football, any potential departure is complicated by his long contract and significant wages.
