Wesley Fofana claims Chelsea goal in Liverpool draw was his touch
Wesley Fofana believes he should be credited with Chelsea’s goal in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool, even though it has officially gone down as an Enzo Fernandez strike.
The defender was lurking in front of goal when Fernandez’s effort flew in, and replays appeared to show the slightest of touches on its way past Alisson.
“I think it was mine. Everyone has told me that I touched the ball,” Fofana told TNT Sports after the game. “I don’t know if I did touch the ball, but if it’s me or Enzo Fernandez, then I’m happy because it was an important one.”
He admitted he did not clearly feel the contact in real time, adding: “I didn’t feel myself touch the ball to be honest, but everyone said they saw on the replays that I touched the ball, so I guess I did. It was a good shot from Fernandez. We worked on that during the week, so I’m happy for him.”
Despite the goal, the draw leaves Chelsea frustrated as they risk slipping further behind in the race for European places.
