AC Milan forward Rafael Leao has expressed satisfaction after netting a crucial goal in his side’s 2-1 victory over Genoa on Monday night, as the Rossoneri continued their strong finish to the Serie A season.
Milan came from behind to secure the win, which marked their fourth in five league matches.
After Genoa’s Vitinha opened the scoring, Leao found the equaliser before a late own goal by Genoa captain Morten Frendrup handed Milan all three points.
Reflecting on the performance, Leao highlighted the importance of the team’s mindset in the final stretch of the campaign.
“We talked among ourselves and said these last few games are crucial to picking up as many points as possible,” he said.
The Portuguese international, who has Angolan heritage, also credited tactical adjustments made by manager Stefano Pioli for Milan’s improved solidity.
“The coach changed the formation, and we’re more compact now — I think we’ve only conceded two goals in the last few matches,” he noted.
Leao praised the collective commitment of the squad, pointing to the impact of substitutes and the team’s resilience in the face of setbacks.
“I’m happy — everyone here works every day to help the team. We showed that today — one of our teammates got injured, and the players who came on made the difference.”
He also spoke about the internal motivation within the squad and the supportive environment fostered by teammates.
“Every match, I try to help the team, whether I start or come off the bench. Even Gabbia always gives me confidence — sometimes he yells at me!”
