Werder Bremen is set to bolster its squad with the arrival of Issa Kaboré on loan from Manchester City, AfricaSoccer.com can report

The Burkina Faso international is eager to make a fresh start in the German Bundesliga after his limited playing time during a brief stint at Benfica.

The loan deal, confirmed by renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, promises to enhance Bremen’s push for European football.

Kaboré, 23, will compete with Mitchell Weiser for the right wing-back position in Ole Werner’s system.

Known for his pace and energy on the flanks, he offers Bremen tactical flexibility and defensive solidity.

Despite being a Manchester City player since 2020, Kaboré has yet to feature for the Premier League champions, spending his career on loan at clubs such as Marseille, Troyes, and Luton Town.

He played 24 times for Luton in the English Premier League last term.

Bremen, currently seventh in the Bundesliga, has enjoyed an impressive season and sits just two points shy of the Champions League spots.

Kaboré’s arrival is timely, as the club seeks to maintain momentum in the second half of the campaign.

For Kaboré, this move offers an opportunity to showcase his talents in a competitive league and stake his claim for a long-term role at a top club.

Ivory Coast drop in latest FIFA Africa rankings amid inactivity

Ivory Coast have slipped two places in the latest FIFA Africa rankings, falling to 43rd in the world following a period of relative inactivity on the international stage. The decline reflects the global ranking system’s reliance on match results and frequency of play, which continues to impact nations that do not engage regularly in competitive fixtures. The Elephants, who recently lifted the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, have seen a slight drop in momentum in terms of international engagement. Despite their continental triumph, the lack of subsequent competitive matches has affected their standing in FIFA’s latest update. Nigeria, another African powerhouse, finds itself in a similar position.
