Werder Bremen respond to reports over early termination of Victor Boniface loan deal
Werder Bremen have responded to reports linking Nigeria star Victor Boniface with a possible early departure following an unimpressive start to life at the club.
Boniface, who arrived at the Weserstadion in the summer on a season-long loan, has yet to live up to expectations.
The Nigerian forward has struggled to settle and deliver consistent performances, prompting speculation that Werder Bremen could consider terminating the agreement before the end of the season.
Boniface’s spell at Werder Bremen has also been plagued by injuries. He was ruled out of Werder Bremen’s final two fixtures of 2025 after picking up a knee injury, further limiting his chances to make an impact during a crucial period of the season.
After Saturday’s 0-0 Bundesliga draw against Augsburg, Werder Bremen’s managing director of professional football, Clemens Fritz, addressed the situation and admitted that Boniface’s future remains under review.
“Victor is currently injured, and we are in communication with the Leverkusen doctors. For now, we want to give him a bit of rest. He will take a few days off, but then we’ll have to see how things develop,” Fritz told reporters on Saturday
Boniface is still searching for his first goal for Werder Bremen, having failed to score in 11 appearances across all competitions this season.
